During your teeth cleaning, we’ll examine you for signs of gum disease. We’ll also remove plaque and tartar from your teeth, which helps prevent gum disease from forming. If we notice any signs that you may have gingivitis or gum disease, Dr. Girgis can provide you with gum therapy such as a “deep cleaning” to eliminate the bacteria that are causing your condition, and restore your smile.
During all of our routine cleanings and oral exams, Dr. Girgis will use special tools like intraoral cameras to check for signs of oral cancer. By looking for indicators like lesions, discolored areas, and irregular patches in your mouth, we can identify any potential areas of concern, and recommend the appropriate testing. While oral cancer is rare, it often goes undetected without regular screenings until it spreads throughout the rest of the body. Regular screenings give you peace of mind, particularly if you have an elevated risk of oral cancer due to factors like excessive sun exposure, HPV, or tobacco use.
Regular teeth cleanings and oral exams are usually covered by dental insurance. Even if you do not have dental insurance, seeing us for a consultation every six months is still very affordable.
